Overview

Astrodyne TDI is looking for hands-on individuals who enjoy rolling up their sleeves and working with a multidisciplinary team on the development of innovative products. The Director of Engineering works in conjunction with Senior Management, Marketing and Sales to ensure products are developed according to strategic plan delineated by ATDI’s main stockholders. The Director of Engineering is trusted with the management of the engineering department regarding personnel headcount, composition, performance, and alignment with the business; product development processes and adherence thereto; technical and cost integrity of designs; and in collaboration with Program Management, project timelines. The Director of Engineering will ensure procedures are in place to guarantee new products meet customer expectations and ATDI’s branding standards. To be successful as a Director of Engineering, you should have exceptional leadership, communication, and project management skills, and a belief in developing the skills and talents of others. Ideal candidates will have experience in identifying and navigating organizational changes, and a keen interest in international trends in engineering and leadership.

Responsibilities

What You Will Do

  • Review of customer requirement specifications for new product proposals
  • Design and participate in design reviews to provide detailed design guidance on EMI filters
  • Day-to-day management of a department
  • Development and monitoring of project-specific execution plans
  • Ensure adherence to Quality Control processes.
  • Monitor project assignments to normalize workload across the staff.
  • Attract and retain talent through recruiting, mentoring, training, and other employee development activities
  • Responsible for coordination with other department managers in the organization to provide consistent direction to the staff and to instill a spirit of collaboration throughout the business unit 
  • Providing positive leadership and teambuilding which will encourage employee engagement and maintain high morale.
  • Oversee departmental capital equipment needs and budgeting.
  • Mentoring of junior staff members.

Qualifications

What You Bring To The Role

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Physics
  • Minimum of 10 years of industry related experience with at least 5 years of experience leading a team
  • High frequency magnetic design experience
  • Knowledge on best design practices to comply with different EMC standards.
  • Experience troubleshooting EMC issues
  • Extensive knowledge of components utilized in switch-mode power supply design
  • Agency compliance (UL, CSA, VDE, CE) experience
  • Experience in designing products for testability and manufacturability
  • Experience in designing microcontrollers to report and control power electronics
  • Leadership skills to drive projects to happen on time
